Verify a document

Verifying is choosing a check and showing the customer a QR code, or emailing them a link. LutraID validates what their wallet shares and shows you the result.

Before you start

You need a verifier with at least one check on its Checks tab. See Set up a verifier and Checks.

Steps

  1. Open Verify document and Choose a check. The check decides which documents and information are requested.
  2. Choose the delivery: QR code on screen, or Send by email with the customer's email address.
  3. If several verifiers can run the check, open Choose who runs the check to pick one. Otherwise LutraID picks the only one.
  4. Select Start check, or Send check request for email.
  5. The customer opens the request in their wallet, chooses what to share, and confirms.

The started check

Each started check has its own page, which updates by itself:

  • Waiting for the wallet while the customer hasn't shared yet.
  • Document valid when the wallet shared a valid document.
  • Not verified when the check failed. The page shows the reason.
  • Verification expired when the request ran out of time.

For email requests, the page shows whether the email was sent, and lets you Resend it or Change email to send the same request to another address. Start again sends a new request with the same check and delivery.

The QR code shows only to the person who started the request, and to owners and admins.

How long a request works

By default, a QR code and link work for 15 minutes, and an emailed link for 60 minutes. The assurance profile behind a check can set a different lifetime; the delivery step shows the actual time.

Who sees the shared values

Owners and admins see the values LutraID keeps. Anyone sees the values of checks they started themselves.

In Intermediary mode, LutraID keeps no values: it sends them to your system through the verifier's Result delivery endpoint, and the check page shows the outcome and a reference to look them up in your system. See Receive check results. Other members see the outcome and metadata only, on the check page and in Records.

To hear about finished checks in your own system without polling, use webhooks.
